Wangfujing Street

Wangfujing, a seven hundred-year-old commercial street, houses a wide variety of shops and boutiques where you can find all kinds of commodities, some of which are of world-famous brands. The Oriental Plaza (Dongfang Guangchang) is the biggest store in Wangfujing.
Besides modern department stores, the Foreign Language Bookstore is also in this area. The Old-Beijing-Street is now seated underground, which was built and decorated in Ming and Qing style. The outstanding characteristic of it is the centralized well-known longstanding stores selling shoes, caps, silk cloth, scissors, Chinese brushes and ink-stick, jade articles, tea, desserts, pickled vegetables, roast ducks and so on. The most popular sites for souvenir photos are the sculptures on both street sides, reflecting life of old Beijing. Various kind goods you can buy here. because Wangfujing is a long street, that houses many shops.

Silk Market

The Silk Street (aka Xiushui Market) attracts approximately 20,000 visitors daily (from 9am to 9pm) on  weekdays and between 50,000 and 60,000 on weekends as of 2006. This 35,000-square-meter complex houses 1,700 retail vendors and over 3,000 salespeople spread over seven floors with three levels of basements. Many of the stalls have, over the years, gained local and international reputation for selling counterfeit luxury designer brands at relatively-low prices. Some have carried on this trademark despite growing pressures from the management, the Chinese government and famous brand-name companies

The market is full of beautiful silk products (pyjamas, robes, shirts, scarves, and so on) as well as tons of textiles (cashmere scarves, clothes of all types, tableclothes, etc.), and handicrafts. Everything in the market can be had way cheaper than at any of the stores in the city, but you will have to bargain for it.

Hongqiao Market(Pearl Market)

Name Pearl Market is somehow misleading. This big market offers everything, from pocket knifes, copy watches, sports wear, bags, shoes to actual jewelry.
It is somehow chaotic – but so is every market in China (the ones locals visit are even harder to pick through). On ground floor you can find some electronics, basic photo equipment, copy watches and other small stuff (pocket knives, thermos for tea…). On second floor they have shoes, women’s and men’s clothes, bags and some sporting goods – remember when bargaining - they are all fakes! At the top of the store they keep pearls, other jewelry and souvenirs (lamps, stamps, coins, kites, silk craft…).

You can make the best deal buying pearls and copy watches (they are really cheap here, if you know how to bargain).
For other stuff you can make a better deal on other more local markets.

Remember, they will start with the skyhigh prices - don't get discouraged - BARGAIN!

Panjiayuan Market

Situated west of Panjiayuan Bridge and south of the East Third Ring Road, the Panjiayuan Antiques Market is very accessible. The market deals mainly in antiques and arts and crafts. It also has the reputation of being the most inexpensive antiques market in Beijing, attracting foreign and domestic tourists.

Whether you want to sightsee, window-shop or buy collectors' items, there really is something for everyone. Even Hilary Clinton has famously shopped at Panjiayuan.

With so many stalls selling similar items, this is a great place for bargain hunters. And although there are genuine articles to be found here, it is hard to tell the real deal from the fake, particularly if you aren't an expert.

Liulichang Antiques Street

Liulichang is known throughout China and the world for its ancient books, calligraphy, paintings, rubbings, ink stones and ink. The street, which is only 750 meters long, is located south of Hepingmen (Peace) Gate within walking distance of the Hepingmen Quanjude Peking Duck Restaurant.

There are shops for paper, scroll-mounting, book binding and the carving of stone tablets and name seals. The most famous of these is Rongbaozhai (Studio of Glorious Treasures), which has a history of over 200 years. Here internationally renowned reproductions of Chinese paintings are made using the traditional technique of woodblock color printing.
